How not to dispel rumors: Paramount in the New York Times

We kept meaning to make mention of Laura Holson‘s piece in the New York Times today, but we were filled with such slack-jawwed ennui from Brad Grey‘s non-defense of Gail Berman, we were unable to move, let alone type.
Viz,

“Mr. Grey said Ms. Berman had his support so far. ‘She’s working hard and it’s early,’ he said.”

That’s it? That’s the defense of the most embattled studio head in recent memory?

Berman, a brilliant TV programmer at Fox, still has zero movie experience; she is rumored to have battled with her production lieutenants, and already seems to have one foot out the door as Paramount prepares for its “human bake sale” – to use an unnamed Paramount suit quoted by the Times – of executives who won’t make the transition post-DreamWorks.

The words ‘faint praise’ come to mind here.
