Hitwise Debuts Cable-News Category; MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann Is First Winner

Hitwise added a new category to its analysis of most-viewed television Web sites, cable news, and MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann was the first-ever leader for the week ending July 3, followed by MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, and Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck.
As usual, the top two broadcast-network sites were ABC and CBS.
CBS’ Big Brother blasted its way onto the list of the top three broadcast-show sites, claiming the No. 2 spot, behind Fox’s American Idol and followed by Fox’s America’s Most Wanted.
The top-three cable-show Web sites were unchanged from the week ending June 26: Comedy Central’s South Park, ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars, and Comedy’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.
When combining broadcast and cable networks, the top three were also unchanged from the prior week: Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, South Park, and Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb.
The only fast riser on the broadcast-show list was ABC’s Castle (to No. 25 from No. 35).
Cable boasted a host of fast risers: FX’s Rescue Me (7 from 139), Food Network’s Paula’s Home Cooking (10 from 24), SyFy’s Warehouse 13 (11 from 25), Bravo’s Top Chef (21 from 31), Food’s Down Home with the Neelys (23 from 38), and USA Network’s In Plain Sight (24 from 34).
And fast risers among the overall top 25 were Cartoon Network’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars (5 from 24), Rescue Me (15 from 236), Big Brother (19 from 52), Paula’s Home Cooking (22 from 46), and Warehouse 13 (23 from 49).
