Hiring Rate Increases for New Journalism Grads

If you’re a new grad with a sparkling journalism degree, listen up. According to a new survey published by the University of Georgia, there’s good news for our industry after all.

In 2012, 66 percent of journalism graduates landed a full-time job six to eight months after graduation. This is up from 62 percent in 2011 and compared to 56 percent in 2009!

According to the piece published by CNN, Lee Becker, co-author of the report and journalism professor at the school explained, “Employers might be shedding senior-level jobs, but there’s always pressure to hire entry-level jobs.”

One explanation for the increase could be related to the increase in online publications.
