HeyZap, the social gaming platform that helps game discovery for gamers across varying social networks, has made a big move into the mobile arena with their latest social discovery app for Android. In a sentence, the new app allows you to check in to the games you’re playing to share them with your friends.

The goal here is to connect the millions of mobile game players around the world by giving them a meta-community around which gamers can let each other know what they’re up to on mobile. Check out the fancy promo shot below:

The new app is about checking in to games, but it also includes HeyZap’s existing functionality, like getting badges for each game you play and finding new games. There’s no doubt that this puts these guys in direct competition with OpenFeint (and Apple’s Game Center to a degree), but HeyZap has proven itself in the past as a reliable and exciting gaming network.

The power of this new platform is really in the news feed, which allows you to look at what your friends are checking in to. I’ll be honest, this is a great idea but also a risky proposition: will Apple release something like this on their own and put pressure on HeyZap? Or maybe, Apple will buy HeyZap and take their functionality. It’s hard to tell at this point, but in the end, consumers are winning and game makers are too as more gamers get access to see more games.

This will definitely be an entertaining mobile option for mobile gamers.
