Heather Mills Accuses Mirror Group of Hacking Her Voicemail

Piers Morgan allegedly listened to messages

Heather Mills has alleged that a senior journalist from the U.K.’s Mirror Newspaper Group admitted that he hacked into her voicemail to listen to messages left by Paul McCartney, her boyfriend at the time.

Mills told the BBC that after McCartney left the voicemails, a journalist called her and “started quoting verbatim the messages from my machine.” When Mills accused the journalist of having broken into her voicemails and threatened to go to the police, the reporter confessed to having hacked her phone.

Trinity Mirror, parent company of the Mirror Group, responded to Mills’ claim by saying, “Our position is clear. All our journalists work within the criminal law and the PCC [Press Complaints Commission] code of conduct.”

Mills confirmed that the journalist who contacted her was not CNN host Piers Morgan, who was the editor of the Daily Mirror at the time. But the message seems to be the same one that Morgan claimed to have listened to in a 2006 article in the Daily Mail.

“There was absolutely no honest way that Piers Morgan could have obtained that tape that he has so proudly bragged about unless they had gone into my voice messages,” Mills said.
