HD Radio Turns Up the Volume

Consumer acceptance of HD Radio got off to a slow start, but the market will soar in the next few years, according to a new study by ABI Research.

By the end of this year, ABI is forecasting that there will be about 4 million units in the marketplace, up from the current 3 million.

By 2015, there could be as many as 63 million, with 26 million car-based systems and 37 million in smartphones.

There are several reasons for the uptick, including the availability of portable and home receivers and the move to put digital receivers in mobile devices.
