HBO Creates Social Network for Viewers; Connects with Facebook, Twitter

This new social networking platform has been up for about a week. Fans are able to connect with other fans, actors, writers and other social media outlets. The whole idea is to strengthen HBO cable television as a community of fans.

HBO has recently become very aware that their hit shows are continuously appearing in conversations on social sites like Facebook and Twitter.  So what did they do?  The cable television network has decided to join in on the action and create HBO CONNECT, a new forum that invites HBO fanatics to dish about their favorite programs.

This new social networking platform has been up for about a week. Fans are able to connect with other fans, actors, writers and other social media outlets. The whole idea is to strengthen HBO cable television as a community of fans.

I decided to check out the new platform and see for myself how the HBO CONNECT works. I discovered several of my Facebook friends “Like” True Blood. Ironically, True Blood fans were the first to experience this new site with the debut of TBwithdrawal.com which showcases teasers, behind-the-scenes features and discussions regarding the upcoming fourth season premiering on June 26, 2011.

I have never seen True Blood. But now that I know my friends like it, I am curious to find out more about the show and see if it is something that I would like to watch. So, I went to TBwithdrawa.com watch some clips and decided it wasn’t for me. Just think, HBO CONNECT overall plan worked on me. I did check out one of their shows because I saw on HBO CONNECT that my friends like it, too.

HBO CONNECT offers different features that focus on different aspects of the shows. The Feed, Pulse, Conversations, Visualizers and Connections will offer different features to get the fans involved and talking! Though I didn’t feel compelled to use these features, I can see how someone who likes True Blood would be inclined to comment and connect up to other fans.

HBO CONNECT makes is very easy to connect up by simply logging on via their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
