Has Google Plus Really Grown to 62 Million Users?

A new post by Paul Allen (not the famous one) has revealed that Google Plus may have added 12 million users over the course of December.  Typically, people have used the 50m number to talk about Google Plus numbers, assuming some growth since Google’s October announcement that they had “more than 40m users”, but since Google has not announced further numbers, the cat wasn’t able to get out of the bag, until now.

Paul uses a surname analysis to see how many surnames there on Google Plus, and then using publicly available data about the prevalence of those names within the world, extrapolates his findings to get an estimate about the number of users using Google Plus.
