HARO, ProfNet Competitor 'NewsBasis' Launches; Gets NYT Treatment
The market landscape for services that use technology to match journalists with sources just got a bit more crowded. The New York Times has an exclusive on the launch of NewsBasis, which will compete directly with established services ProfNet and Help A Reporter Out (HARO).
The service launched today and will initially be free. It has a few features that are new to the market, namely that sources can add footnotes to articles on Websites, “so when reporters are doing research using their Web browser, a tab will appear indicating that a NewsBasis source has offered a different point of view or corrected a fact,” the Times reports.
Of course, the success of any of these services depends on if reporters begin to use them.
