For two days in March, 20-year-old Hailey Baldwin and famed 73-year-old photographer Gilles Bensimon lit up the City of Lights. The results of their work, styled by Caroline Christiansson, adorn the cover and lead feature of Maxim magazine’s annual “Hot 100” issue, scheduled to hit newsstands Tuesday May 30.

It’s important to note that except for #1 selection Baldwin, Maxim’s rundown of lovely ladies is not weighted or sequential. While the cover shot of Baldwin is getting some attention, for our croissants the most artful photo is this one.

Magnifique! The overcast sky; the opting for black and white; the sultry expression. This is a throwback to French movie sirens like Jeanne Moreau, Romy Schneider and Brigitte Bardot.

Beyond Baldwin, the 2017 “Hot 100” list is broken down into 14 categories. Everything from a couple of Hadid’s and a pair of Jenner’s in “Sister Acts,” to a well-timed grouping of “Baywatch Babes.” Here’s more info about the selection process:

Maxim magazine looked for beautiful and bold women who use their platforms–whether Instagram or celebrity megaphone–to define and express themselves. They are actresses, athletes, musicians and models, yes, but also brand builders, entrepreneurs and voices of a generation. What they have in common is that they are changing the conversation in their fields, from film, TV and music, to social media and competitive sports.

A second Baldwin, Ireland, can be found in “The New Guard” category, while a rather intriguing collection of 10 makes up “The Cool Girls.” Maxim’s “Hot 100” has grown up and re-calibrated for the times.

By the way, when Baldwin worked with Bensimon, the photographer had just celebrated his 73rd birthday. The native of Vic-sur-Cère, who was married in the 1980s to Elle MacPherson, is a so-called “leapling,” born Feb. 29, 1944. Whether Bensimon chooses to mark the occasion in non-leap years on Feb. 28 or March 1, Fishbowl wishes him a belated bonne fête!
