GupShup Millionaire
Some 5% of all text messages sent within India can be blamed on Twitter-like service SMS GupShup, which is mainly used via SMS and which now totals 26 million users, TechCrunch reported.
SMS GupShup co-founder and CEO Beerud Sheth told TechCrunch India totals 550 million mobile-phone users and only 50 million Web users, adding that the service is processing more than 480 million messages monthly.
Sheth added that SMS GupShup is eyeing expansion into Southeast Asian markets including Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.
He also told TechCrunch more than 2 million groups exist within SMS GupShup, and the average user belongs to 2.75
