Google’s Area 120 Launches Uptime Social Video Viewing App

Uptime allows users to share and watch YouTube videos with others in real-time

Google‘s startup incubator, Area 120, launched Uptime on iOS. Spotted by The Verge, the application allows users to share and watch YouTube videos with other users in real-time.

Uptime is currently in invite-only mode, but users can enter invite code “PIZZA” to gain access. From there, users can search for YouTube videos to share with the community, or watch videos that have already been shared.

As a social experience, users can see which videos other users are watching in real-time, and they can also see which videos a user has previous watched. Finally, users can follow others within the app to keep track of the videos they share.

While watching a video, users can share their reactions in multiple ways. They can share comments or tap on the screen to add sparkles to a video, with these interactions only being viewable by the other users watching the video at the same time. Users can also like videos and share emoji reactions while watching, with these interactions remaining on the video for all users to see at a later time.

Uptime is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store.
