Google vs. Facebook Data Battle Reached the Nexus S with the Android OS 2.3.3 Update

It looks like the long awaited Gingerbread (Android OS 2.3) update for the Nexus One is finally rolling out according to Engadget.

My Nexus One is apparently not yet in the firmware update queue in the cloud as I still have 2.2.2 on it. Nexus S owners may note that something is missing after the 2.3.3 update according to several sources.

Yep, the Facebook-Google data sharing war has taken it out on the S. The issue has to do with how Facebook allows contacts information to be accessed. Google had been treating Facebook’s network-only access (no download) to be treated as a special case. This special case has been revoked for the Nexus S. We’ll see if this eventually trickles down to the older Nexus One.
