Google Says: Gingerbread (Android OS 2.3) Upgrade for Nexus One Coming Soon

The new Nexus S running Gingerbread (Android OS 2.3) became available last week. My blogging partner Frank McPherson bought one and offered some thoughts about it last night.

After The First Weekend With The Nexus S

But, what about those of us who bought the Nexus One less than 12 months ago? Fear not, Google says it is getting the update as an Over The Air (OTA) upgrade soon. Here’s what the @GoogleNexus account tweeted:

The Gingerbread OTA for Nexus One will happen in the coming weeks. Just hang tight!

The Nexus One won’t be able to take advantage of support for new hardware features like NFC (Near Field Communications) or the gyroscope available in the Nexus S. However, if improved battery life is part of the package, I’m really looking forward to seeing what the Gingerbread upgrade does for my Nexus One.
