Google & Nestle Partner on Android KitKat Operating System

Google has released its new operating system this week and the latest version has been named after the Nestle candy KitKat.

The new name follows a history of names after desserts including: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean. But this is the first time that it involved a corporate partnership. As part of the partnership, Nestle has released more than 50 million KitKat bars with Android-branded packaging in 19 countries including Australia, Brazil, Germany, India, Japan, Dubai, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The packaging encourages consumers to  go online to enter to win prizes including Google Nexus 7 tablets and Google Play credits. Nestle has even created a limited edition Android shaped Kit Kat bar to give away as prizes in select markets.

The partnership comes as Nestle is looking to connect with consumers online. Oddly enough, earlier this year the candy-maker acquired, an online database that links adoptable pets with potential owners.
