Google Mobile Web Search “Near me now” Feature Only Works When NOT Logged in to Your Google Account

Google announced a quirky mobile search feature this week…

Finding places “Near me now” is easier and faster than ever on Google.com

You can see how the “Near me now” search feature works in the video embedded above. It lets you learn about nearby places if your iPhone or Android phone provides location information. It seems like a useful feature, right?

Here’s the quirky thing: As far as I can tell, it only works if you are NOT logged into your Google account in the iPhone or Android browser. If you are logged in, you must sign out to use the feature. I tried this on an iPhone, Droid, and Nexus One. So, what’s the deal with that, Google?
