Google Extends AdWords to Google News

Google is extending its AdWords program to Google News, the company said today.

What this means, according to a post on Google’s blog by Josh Cohen, business product manager: “When you enter a query like iPhone or Kindle into the Google News search box, you’ll see text ads alongside your News search results — similar to what you see on regular Google searches or Google Book Search.”

Several observers note that this move is not good for the newspaper industry, which allowed Google to index and show snippets of newspaper articles.

Of course, newspapers benefited from the traffic that Google sent, however now with a revenue component attached, Google receives dollars for that content.
