Gmail for iOS Fixed Now. Missing Ability to Manage Multiple Email Addresses

Google is a believer in the saying, “If at first you don’t succeed, try try again.” Google released the first Gmail for iOS app a little over two weeks ago. It was pulled within hours of its release because of a major bug. As Frank McPherson noted here: Google Rushes Gmail App For iOS And Botches The Release

Google made another try this week by releasing a fixed version 1.0.2 of the app.

But, does the Gmail for iOS app deliver on the promise to bring a full Gmail experience to the iPhone and iPad? The app’s main advantage over the iOS mobile Gmail web experience is the option to turn on push notification. This lets you know when new mail is received. However, the app, like its mobile web counterpart, is missing an important feature for people who import mail from other sources (POP3 servers). It does not provide the ability to create new email using an alternate address. For example, if I received email to in Gmail, I would like to be able to respond to mail and create mail using that address. This is possible using Gmail’s desktop web interface. However, it is not possible using the Gmail for iOS app or the Gmail mobile web interface.
