Globe Rejects Pay Cut Deal; 23 Percent Cuts Coming

Members of the Newspaper Guild at the Boston Globe voted last night to reject a proposed wage and benefit cut, the New York Times reported. Parent company The New York Times Company will now institute a unilateral 23 percent salary cut.

Members of the Guild are hopeful that negotiations will resume. Daniel Totten, the Boston guild’s president, told reporters:
“With today’s vote, members of the Boston Newspaper Guild have said that the New York Times Company must do better.
