Gaypon Is Like Groupon…Only Gayer

Gaypon is a brand new daily deals site that caters to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community and offers special deals and offers only from businesses that are known to be gay friendly. And the coolest part is, a portion of the proceeds goes to LGBT charities and organizations, helping users save money while helping a good cause.

A brand new daily coupon site launched earlier this week, jumping on the online deals bandwagon with Groupon, LivingSocial and others.  But this one’s daring to be different.  Gaypon, founded by Robert Graham and Jason Buszta, caters to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) community and offers special deals and offers only from businesses that are known to be gay friendly.  And the coolest part is, a portion of the proceeds goes to LGBT charities and organizations, helping users save money while helping a good cause.

The site states that they donate “a healthy portion of proceeds to charities and organizations that support the gay community, like The Trevor Project who focuses on crisis and suicide prevention amongst LGBTQ youth, and Affirmations, which is one of the largest LGBT community centers in the United States.”

It should be noted that you don’t have to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender to sign up for Gaypon.  They offer deals and discounts on all sorts of items from everyday things like restaurants, entertainment and fashion to travel, gadgets, skin care, fitness and more.  The thing that makes them different is that they perform background checks to make sure that all of the businesses they feature are gay friendly.

According to the Gaypon website, “For a business to become a featured Gaypon merchant, we perform a background check to look for complaints from customers and employees of discrimination, poor hiring practices, etc.  We also use various tools, like the Human Rights Campaign’s ‘Corporate Equality Index’ that rates American workplaces on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.”

The site is based out of West Bloomfield, Michigan and, as such, that is where most of the deals are now based.  However, TechCrunch reports that deals are forthcoming in NYC, San Francisco, San Diego, Chicago, Phoenix, and Atlanta.  Check out the video below to find out more, or sign up for Gaypon at DailyGaypon.com.
