Gannett's Wage Freeze Thaws

Gannett Co. is lifting the year-old wage freeze at its newspapers effective April 1, 2010, Editor & Publisher reports.

“Going forward, we will get back into the normal review cycle where people will be eligible for raises based, as always, on performance and contributions to the overall organization,” said U.S Community Publishing (USCP) President Bob Dickey in a memo.

USCP contains all of Gannett’s papers except USA Today; that flagship paper is covered under a separate structure.

That Gannett is lifting this wage freeze is unsurprising; the freeze was always scheduled to expire in a year.
