Gannett to Acquire Journal Media for $280 Million

Gannett just got bigger.

Gannett has acquired Journal Media Group—publisher of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, The Commercial Appeal in Memphis and more—for $280 million.

The deal expands Gannett’s already robust newspaper offerings. When the transaction closes, Gannett will add 15 dailies and 18 weeklies in 14 markets across in nine states.

“The publications of both Gannett and Journal Media Group have a rich history, a commitment to journalism, and a dedication to informing and being active members in the communities we serve,” said Gannett CEO Robert Dickey, in a statement.
