Gannett to Reorg, Cut 100 Management Positions

Gannett plans to eliminate about 100 management positions and overhaul its Community Publishing structure, U.S. Community Publishing President Robert Dickey wrote Tuesday in a letter to employees.

The cuts are in addition to the larger reduction the company announced in August. It trimmed its workforce by 1,000 positions through a series of buyouts and attrition in its newspaper division.

In Dickey’s letter, first posted on Romenesko, he cites the impact this recession has had on Gannett’s–and indeed the entire industry’s–financial performance, affecting not only classifieds but all advertising categories.

Expenses at Gannett have outpaced revenue by “threefold,” he wrote.
