Gamers Bought Over $1 Million Pizza Hut Pies Through XBox App

xbox_app-image1_300dpi.0_cinema_720In the span of four short months, XBox gamers have been getting quite hungry for Pizza Hut – the game console app was able to genera a quick $1 million in revenue, especially on weekends.

In an interview with Polygon, Pizza Hut’s Director of Relations, Doug Terfehr, said, “It’s been a source of unbelievable growth for us… Just the explosion of people who wanted to download it, experiment with it, play with it with Kinect. As soon as we did one, everyone was contacting us to do the next [one].”

The XBox app was released in April of 2013, and the $1 million revenue only accounts for the first four months – it’s safe to assume the next four will be just as hungry-inducing. Pizza Hut has been using digital platforms since 1994. By 2008, the company had already picked up $1 billion in pizza sales. The iPhone app followed in 2009 followed by apps for iPad and Android devices, and last year’s highly successful XBox app.

Pizza Hut did not indicate what other gaming platforms to pursue, but Terfehr did say, “When you talk about a sweet spot for the pizza category it’s definitely gamers and gaming. We’re not done in that space.”
