Gameloft Announces Game Updates, Bundles and More for iOS 8

Gameloft has announced a set of updates and content releases in association with iOS 8 and Apple’s support for app bundles on the iTunes App Store. First, the company has released its largest update ever for Asphalt 8: Airborne on iOS devices (our review), taking advantage of Apple’s Metal technology for improved graphics and real-time effects on supported devices. This introduces improved weather effects and other visual enhancements to the experience, as well as a Metal exclusive content release that takes advantage of the technology’s capabilities. First, the game now offers a Metal-exclusive season, which features 23 cars on screen at the same time, as opposed to eight before. Again, this season is only available on supported devices: iPhone 5S, iPad Air, iPad Mini Retina, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. In addition, iOS 8 is required for each. Elsewhere, all players can experience the new San Diego Harbor track, which sees users taking off from an aircraft carrier and dodging helicopters while playing. The game will receive five new cars with this update: The Koenigsegg One: 1, Mazda Furai, Maserati MC12, Savage Rivale GTR and Peugeot Onyx. That’s in addition to the four new car collections that players can add to their garage. Lastly, head-to-head multiplayer events have been added to the game, in response to player requests. These events, along with the San Diego Harbor area and the new cars, are also available in the Google Play and Windows Phone versions of the game.In addition to this update in Asphalt 8: Airborne, Gameloft has updated Modern Combat 5: Blackout with a “Metal” update, bringing various visual improvements to the game, including impact particles during gunfights, improved heat haze and weather effects, denser explosions and more. Speaking of Modern Combat, Gameloft’s Modern Combat Bundle has launched on iOS, giving users a chance to purchase Modern Combat 3, 4 and 5 for a total price of $9.99. Each game normally costs $6.99 each. A second bundle, the Action Games Bundle, contains Gangstar Vegas and Modern Combat 5 for $7.99. Gangstar Vegas is normally priced at $2.99. Finally, Gangstar Vegas has been updated with a new gangs system that lets users create their own gangs or join exiting groups of players to compete against rival gangs during weekly events. These events reward users with exclusive rewards, incentivizing players to join and participate. An iOS 8 Gangstar Vegas widget allows users to see events and claim rewards from those events directly from their notifications screen. When tapping on these notifications, players enter new events directly, skipping other menues. More details on Gameloft’s titles are available on the company’s website.
