90% of Companies in the FTSE 100 are on Twitter [STUDY]

90 of the companies in the UK’s FTSE 100 share index have a presence on Twitter, sending out more than 1.4 million tweets collectively over the past year.

Communications agency Battenhall published their second annual report which looks at how FTSE 100 companies use Twitter, and found that just 10 companies in the index do not have a Twitter account, down from 12 last year.

Other highlights from the report:

  • 37 of the FTSE 100 companies have verified Twitter accounts (up from 10 from last year)
  • 6 of the 90 companies have never tweeted (down from 8 last year)
  • 10 companies have not tweeted in the last month (down from 19 last year)
  • Only 39 companies have more than 10,000 followers (up from 28 last year)
  • 20 companies have fewer than 1,000 followers (down from 21 last year)
