FOX, Brian Wilson and Nick Simeone

The Politico takes a look at FOX’s DC Bureau and says that Bureau Chief Brian Wilson “rules by intimidation.” Case in point: The departure of Pentagon producer Nick Simeone (“a huge loss” for FOX says one source), who conveniently quit just as soon as Wilson brought Simeone into his office after FOX was the last network to break the news of Gen. Peter Pace’s resignation.

“Nick felt that he was being unfairly criticized.” At Wilson’s request, Simeone went in for a 9 a.m. meeting shortly after the Pace incident; by 10 a.m. the same day, he had quit.

But one FOX insider said, “(Simeone) was 24 minutes late getting the Peter Pace retirement news on air. Wilson is approachable and one of the most fair managers in the business. … (Simeone) was given the option to step it up, and he chose to walk away. … Fox News doesn’t tolerate mediocrity, and Wilson knew how to take care of it.”

“For what it’s worth, the jobless Simeone, we hear, is taking it in stride and still has nothing but good things to say about Fox.”
