Fortune.com Gets a Newsletter Writer While the National Journal Continues to Hire, Plus Other News of the Day

– For those who thought the iPad would save the magazine industry, a new report sort of dampens that optimistic outlook. According to a study by Next Issue Media, the iPad versions of magazines will bring in around $3 billion worth of advertising revenue. But, and it’s a big but, after you subtract revenue that the tablets will take away from the print side, it only creates $1.3 billion in extra revenue. So there will be some extra money going around, but not enough to save a dying industry.
