Fitness Magazine’s Betty Wong Talks Half Marathons And Kristin Davis

betty_wong_4.12.10.jpgFitness magazine editor in chief Betty Wong spoke with FishbowlNY about the upcoming More / Fitness New York City Half Marathon taking place in Central Park on April 25th. Not only is her magazine helping organize the event, but Wong will also participate. She claims she hasn’t been training as much as she “should,” but, seeing how we become winded after a particularly excruciating elevator chat, we more than admire her tenacity.

Wong, who is no stranger to running marathons and half-marathons, shared her excitement over the fact that Sex and the City actress Kristin Davis will host this year’s event, rooting on participants and awarding prizes. Davis is also the cover model for Fitness‘ upcoming May issue, where she’ll share her exercise tips with readers, but probably won’t explain the confusing trailer for the Sex and the City 2 movie.

Fitness has been prepping for the half marathon by offering readers a training plan for marathons and half marathons in their March issue. Fitness and More have also worked together to bring their readers updated information about the race through Facebook and will be Twittering about the event as it happens.

Wong also told us that, leading up to the big race, the magazine is organizing a two-day Health and Wellness Expo April 23rd and 24th (which is free and open to the public) at New York’s Roseland Ballroom, where they’ll share tips, host giveaways and feature experts on running and health. And, to help runners load up on carbs in anticipation of the half marathon, both magazines will be hosting a Pasta Party on Saturday, April 24 at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square.

Wong shares that one of her favorite things about the women-only race is the tendency its participants have of cheering each other on while running, creating, as Wong put it, a “sister-like” bond.

Godspeed, you crazy wonderful fit ladies! We’ll be cheering you on. From the sidelines. With routine breaks.
