Brodey, you'll recall, was hired away from rival Shape in May by Meredith, but was placed at More for three months until a non-compete clause in her contract cleared. Brodey joins Fitness from More magazine, where she had served as Special Projects Editor since May 2006. She will report to Mike Lafavore, who will continue to oversee Fitness as Meredith Publishing Group Editorial Director. "I have followed Denise's career for some time and she clearly emerged as the perfect fit for the editor of Fitness," says Lafavore. "Denise has a tremendous amount of creative energy and has great relationships with all the best health and fitness writers. We're very happy to have her at Meredith." Prior to joining Meredith, Brodey was Executive Editor of Shape where she played an integral role in the magazine's re-launch by redesigning covers and layouts and refining the magazine's mission. Before that, she held the position of Deputy Editor at Glamour since 2001. During her tenure, she was responsible for editing health, fitness, and emotional wellness features and front-of-book copy as well as creating new work and home sections. Brodey has held leading editorial positions at many of the nation's top women's magazines. Her experience includes serving as the Fitness and Lifestyle Director of Self magazine and Executive Editor of American Health. She has also held senior level editorial positions at Child and Fitness. Brodey's writing has appeared in the New York Times, Prevention and O: The Oprah Magazine, among other titles. Her book, "Elephant in the Playroom," is to be published in winter 2007 by Penguin. Brodey will be based in Meredith's New York offices at 375 Lexington Ave. A graduate of Barnard College, Brodey resides with her family in Brooklyn.
