Firecracker: The Fourth of July Was the Hottest Hot Topic on Facebook, Instagram in July

The social network’s research arm revealed last month’s sizzlers

The Fourth of July scorched up Facebook IQ’s lists of Hot Topics on Facebook and Instagram for July like a fireworks display.

Mars reaching opposition with the sun July 27 was the only other holiday or event to make a significant dent on Facebook last month, and the same could be said of Friday the 13th and Christmas in July on Instagram.

Alternative band daysormay, Bruce Willis and 2018 Comic-Con International: San Diego ruled entertainment talk on Facebook in July, while Instagrammers chatted about Justin Bieber, LevelUp and Taylor Swift.

Demi Lovato was red-hot in the social network’s research arm’s people category on both social networks in July.

Facebook users made the Major League Baseball All-Star Game and the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys July Hot Topics, while sports fans on Instagram talked about Floyd Mayweather Jr. and National Basketball Association star DeMar DeRozan.

Captain Morgan and Airbnb were Facebook’s Hot Topics in the brands category for the month, while brands that caught Instagrammers’ fancy included the Ford Fiesta RX43.

Finally, cooler summer foods were hot topics on Facebook in July, led by chicken salad and pina colada, while Instagram users worked up an appetite for Hpnotiq and zeppoles.

Facebook IQ measured subjects that drove disproportionately high volumes of discussion on both social platforms, marking the latest in a Facebook-Adweek Hot Topics monthly series that began in 2015.
