FCC Launches Investigation Of 'Fake' News

WASHINGTON — The Federal Communications Commission has launched an investigation of dozens of television stations, for airing corporate-sponsored and scripted segments on news programs, without disclosing their sources.

FCC chairman Kevin Martin announced the probe today. This comes on the heels of an April 6 report by the Center for Media and Democracy — “Fake TV News: Widespread and Undisclosed” — identifying 77 television stations across the country that aired such “fake” segments without disclosure.
