FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski on National Broadband Plan

As reported last week, Federal Communications Commission chairman Julius Genachowski answered 17 questions related to the National Broadband Plan, which was introduced Tuesday, in an interview with YouTube, as part of the Google-owned video site’s CitizenTube initiative.

Genachowski said the FCC must eliminate barriers to competition so that more Internet-service providers can compete and drive down prices, adding that the commission will redirect funding currently allotted for rural phone lines toward broadband for rural communities, and while not saying Internet access was a fundamental right, saying all Americans “need to have access to this critical infrastructure.”
