Facebook’s Political Advertising Rules Are Coming to More Countries in 2019

Major elections are being held in India, Nigeria, Ukraine, the EU

Facebook is bringing the political advertising rules and tools it introduced last year in the U.S. and the U.K. to several countries that are holding significant elections this year.

The social network will extend its election-related initiatives to India, Nigeria, Ukraine and the European Union.

Facebook told Paresh Dave of Reuters it is still crafting policies for other countries with major elections on tap in 2019, including Australia, Indonesia, Israel and the Philippines.

The company’s goal is to have a global set of tools by the end of June, and director of product management Rob Leathern and global politics and government outreach director Katie Harbath told Dave that its experiences over the next couple of months will help it to develop those tools.
