Facebook Video Prompts Charges For Mouse Murder

A young Caboolture, Australian woman, who filmed herself killing a live mouse and posted the footage on Facebook now faces criminal charges.

A young Caboolture, Australian woman, who filmed herself killing a live mouse and posted the footage on Facebook now faces criminal charges.

The unidentified 23-year-old captured herself using a steak knife to hack off the head of the mouse. According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), the U.K.’s leading animal welfare charity, the little creature took approximately 40 seconds to die in the grisly video, as the woman just stood by and watched.

The woman then uploaded the video of the mouse killing onto a Facebook account and used an alias to post it.

The RSPCA told the Daily Telegraph that it viewed the case as “significant” as it showed that a person could be held accountable for actions that are posted on the internet and social networking sites.

The woman has been charged with animal cruelty and will face a magistrate in court on Friday.

Do you think posting videos of animal cruelty on Facebook is a form of free speech?
