As reported by ESPN.com, 39-year-old firefighter Shannon Stone of Brownwood, Texas, died from injuries suffered when he fell about 20 feet from the stands after losing his balance while trying to reach a baseball thrown by Texas Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton.

He was at the game at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas, with his six-year-old son.

Stone’s name was not released to the media until Friday morning, and posts expressing sympathy or sharing links to stories about the tragedy began to appear on Facebook almost immediately.
