Facebook Tests Organic Feed Engagement Ad

Organic Feed AdOver the past couple days Facebook has been testing a new form of advertisement which essentially surfaces the liking of a brand by one of your friends. It’s pretty much identical to the organic story that would typically show up in the feed but this has a more permanent placement in the “Sponsored” area of the homepage.

I reached out to Facebook to find out if this was a new ad and they didn’t provide many details except to say that they’re alway testing new forms of advertising. This seems like the most extreme form of engagement ad that we’ve seen as the advertiser would actually end up paying for an feed story that should have shown up in the feed organically. While the story may still have been displayed, I’d assume that this new ad’s purpose is to repost that feed story at a later date once it has disappeared from the user’s feed.

For now this is nothing more than a test, however it would definitely be interesting if advertisers began paying for organic feed story placement in the sidebar of the homepage. If you were advertising would you pay for this type of advertisement?
