Facebook Posts Prineville Pics - Facebook’s Prineville Data Center’s Page posted an album’s worth of photos from the new Prineville, Oregon facility this week. Data from 210 Facebook Profiles Deleted – Pete Warden’s data set of more than 210 million public Facebook profiles has been deleted, according to New Scientist, which reported that the game developer and former Apple engineer destroyed the data upon facing legal action from Facebook. In February we reported that Warden was set to release his data set to the academic community, but put that off after Facebook wanted to discuss the privacy implications of his data further. Warden accessed public profiles without signing into Facebook, something the social network claimed violated their terms of use, prompting their threat of legal action against him. The data set did produce some insights that Warden published on his blog before he destroyed the data, like this map of regional connections between users in the US. Facebook Developer Garage Trademark in the Works – On Monday Facebook filed papers to trademark Facebook Developer Garage. The description for this new trademark, “Computer software development tools; computer software for use as an application programming interface (API); application programming interface (API) for computer software which facilitates online services for social networking, building social networking applications and for allowing data retrieval, upload, download, access and management; computer software to enable uploading, downloading, accessing, posting, displaying, tagging, blogging, streaming, linking, sharing or otherwise providing ele.” Facebook Beats Google Again – Fresh off its record of becoming the most visited site in the U.S. and beating out Google -- at least by one measure -- Facebook became the most searched for brand in the U.S., according to Hitwise. Facebook accounted for 2.8% of all searches in the country in the last full week of March. People Get Reviews on Unvarnished – A new web site, Unvarnished, lets you anonymously post and read reviews of people and their professional performance. You must have a request to be reviewed sent by a Facebook friend to create an account on Unvarnished, use Facebook Connect to log in and “have demonstrated a certain amount of activity on Facebook” to prove it’s a real account. Reviews are pegged to your profile, but your reviews of others cannot be traced back to you. Facebook Debuts Page for iPhone, iTouch Apps – This week Facebook debuted the new App Store Page for iPhone and iTouch apps. Powered by Vitrue, the new Page makes searching for applications easier and provides helpful reviews, shows top apps, free apps and other information you’d get on iTunes — but on Facebook. Yahoo! Integrates Facebook, Again – Yahoo! users can now log into their Facebook accounts from the Yahoo! homepage, click through the profiles of friends after receiving email from friends after linking accounts. Yahoo! Mail is the most widely used email service in the world and has been taking several steps recently to push social networking from the site. In December we reported that Yahoo! integrated Facebook Connect, allowing users to add Facebook friends’ email addresses to their contacts lists. Buddy Media raises $2M – Buddy Media, one of the top providers of Facebook Page management tools, recently raised $2 million in funding from previous investors SoftBank Capital, Greycroft Partners, Ron Conway and Bay Partners. Previously the company raised $8 million.
