Facebook has launched -- make that relaunched -- Questions today.

Facebook has launched — make that relaunched — Questions today.

Numerous third-party applications on Facebook revolve around the questions and answers theme, which together can make Facebook’s launch of Questions seem like an upgrade or relaunch. More pertinently, we’ve seen this application on the site appear in test format as early as last April. But it was always something in testing, and not live yet.

Facebook’s Product Manager for Questions, Adrian Graham, explains on the company’s blog that today’s launch evolved from users posting questions as status updates, and their friends answering as comments.

Like many of our products, Questions originated as people began using Facebook in a new and unexpected way. People would update their status with a questions, and their friends would answer in the comments. We saw this and began thinking about how we could make this interaction more useful. Over the summer, we began testing Questions with a small group of people, and today we are beginning to roll it out to everyone.

While test versions of Questions prompted some to compare it with Quora, the current iteration of the product has a different look and feel. Now you can click to agree with answers already given by others, or add your own response.

Plus, friends can share particular questions with others, and so far that has proven to be extremely viral. The question posted for an example to include on the Facebook blog has circulated into my own friend list. Most likely that has happened because my contacts include people who write about Facebook for other media outlets.

That virality has ironically provided the answer to Graham’s question at the end of his blog post, “What’s the first question you’ll ask with new Facebook Questions?”
