Over the past 12 hours Facebook Page administrators have been reporting a bug that makes it impossible to reply to fan comments. Since then we’ve been able to confirm the issue which is widespread.

While many are asking if the inability to reply and like fan comments is a new “feature”, we are confident that this is a bug which should be fixed at some point in the near future. A quick search on Twitter and on Facebook confirms that numerous people are having the same problem. Our own Facebook Page apparently didn’t have fan comments enabled, and once they were enabled, we weren’t able to view them.

Mari Smith, who’s often first to notice small changes, posted the following image to her Facebook Page, illustrating the problem:

No Comment Bug

There is no doubt that this is a bug and an issue that Facebook should have resolved in short order (or at least after they get into work today). While it’s not the most significant of issues (since the pages are still accessible and page updates can be commented on), it’s a pretty big deal for administrators who like to interact with their fans. It also appears that other fans cannot reply to others as well. We’ll reach out to Facebook for an update on this issue and will post anything we hear back, whenever we get more information.

Update
While we’re still waiting on an official response we’ve received an internal email from someone at Facebook acknowledging that the issue is “being addressed by our engineering team”. It should be updated shortly.

Update 2
Facebook replied back with an official statement, “We are aware that there is an issue where some people are unable to comment on posts on Pages. We’re working hard to fix this as quickly as possible.”
