Facebook Is Testing an Optional Profile Picture Guard in India

The social network found that women, in particular, were leery of including their faces in profile pictures

Users in India spoke, and Facebook listened: The social network is testing tools in India to give users more control over how their profile pictures can be downloaded and shared.

Facebook teamed up with safety organizations in the country—including the Centre for Social Research, Learning Links Foundation, Breakthrough and Youth Ki Awaaz—on the new tools, and product manager Aarati Soman explained the motivation behind their introduction in a Newsroom post:

Today, we are piloting new tools that give people in India more control over who can download and share their profile pictures.
