Facebook, MySpace Still Dominate on Mobile

Here’s some bad news for the gazillions of mobile social networking startups out there: MediaPost reports that MySpace and Facebook still dominate on mobile phones, according to an ABI Research survey released Monday. Here are the numbers:

– 46% of people who use social networks on the desktop have also visited a social network through a mobile phone at least once.

– Of these, nearly 70% visited MySpace and 67% visited Facebook. No other social networking site reached 15% mobile adoption—including any of the specialized mobile social networking sites.

Plus, only 1% of surveyed respondents said that they accessed a social network only through their cell phone. This has been a continuing trend on cell phones, that properties that dominate on the desktop tend to transfer over to mobile, while new IPs on cell phones tend to have a very tough time breaking through.
