They will only have 10 minutes to do so

The ability to delete messages from Facebook Messenger, initially promised by the social network in April, moved one step closer to reality this week.

Facebook said in the release notes for version 191.0 of the Messenger iOS app, “Coming soon: Remove a message from a chat thread after it’s been sent. If you accidentally send the wrong photo, incorrect information or message the wrong thread, you can easily correct it by removing the message within 10 minutes of sending it.”

Corporate sibling WhatsApp introduced the ability for users to delete messages in October 2017, but only after seven minutes. That time limit has since been extended to “about one hour.”

Instagram users can also delete messages sent via Instagram Direct.
