Facebook’s Messenger Lite Android application for emerging markets is now emerging in some of the most established markets globally.

The social network launched Messenger Lite last October as a “slimmed-down” version of Facebook Messenger for areas with poor internet connections.

Messenger Lite’s launch markets were Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela, and in April. 150 more countries were added, including Germany, Colombia, Italy, Vietnam, Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Turkey, Japan, Taiwan and the Netherlands.

Messenger Lite is now available via Google Play in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Ireland, and a Facebook spokesperson said of the expansion, “We’re excited to bring Messenger Lite to Android users in four new markets—Canada, Ireland, the U.K. and the U.S. Messenger Lite is a slimmed-down version of Messenger that offers the core features of the app, while giving everyone the opportunity to stay connected to their friends and family, regardless of device or quality of internet connectivity.”
