While U.S. lawmakers debate how to stimulate employment, Facebook developers have already created 182,000 jobs this year, adding almost $12.2 billion in wages and benefits to the economy.

While U.S. lawmakers debate how to stimulate employment, Facebook developers have already created 182,000 jobs this year, adding almost $12.2 billion in wages and benefits to the economy.

That’s according to the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business, which qualifies that more aggressive estimates amount to 235,644 jobs and over $15.1 billion.

This year, Facebook developers have added over 53,000 jobs of their own, but have stimulated growth in suppliers that collectively added another 129,310 to 182,210 positions as a result.

We wish this study qualified exactly how many employers the researchers consider to be Facebook application developers today so we could have a better sense of whether the jobs tally seems correct.
