Facebook, Instagram Have Seen 3.5 Million-Plus Holiday Shopping Mentions Since Nov. 1

Black Friday and Cyber Monday purchases via those platforms doubled in 2018 vs. 2017

Holiday shopping talk is heating up on Facebook and Instagram, as there have been over 3.5 million related mentions on the two platforms since Nov. 1.

Facebook said transactions completed via ads on Facebook and Instagram were up more than 50% during the 2018 holiday season (defined as Nov. 20 through Dec. 31) compared with the 2017 holiday season.

The social network added that purchases on Black Friday and Cyber Monday via its platform doubled during last year’s holiday season versus the previous year’s, and the same was true for purchases during the week of Thanksgiving and the week of Cyber Monday.

As for Marketplace, the social network’s ecommerce destination, there were two times more searches for holiday gifts on Black Friday 2018 versus Black Friday 2017, with top trending searches including handbag, purse, stocking holders, video game and video game controller.
