Rock star Jon Bon Jovi was the latest victim of a social media death hoax Monday, and he used Facebook to reassure his fans that rumors of his demise were greatly exaggerated.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a very poor rewrite of the newspaper’s story on the death of Michael Jackson was posted by a blog called dailynewbloginternational, after which it spread virally via Facebook.

Last night, Bon Jovi posted a photo on the band’s Facebook page of him standing in front of a Christmas tree and holding a sign that read, “Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey, December 19, 2011, 6:00.”

Readers: Did you or any of your friends share the fake story on Bon Jovi’s death? What about the band’s rebuttal?
