Facebook For Android Updated

Facebook has updated their Android app with changes that amount to baby steps towards being on par with the iPhone app. A few additional functions have been added such as being able to handle friend requests and respond to events and the home screen layout has been slightly changed. A feature unique to the Android version of the Facebook app is the display of pictures posted to your news feed in a stream along the bottom of the screen. Tapping the picture opens the Facebook item that added it to your news feed. I am not sure why Facebook felt it important to add the picture stream as the same information is available in your newsfeed, though it adds functionality to the home screen beyond displaying icons for other Facebook functions. At the very bottom of the home screen is a new notifications bar, and this is a cosmetic change to functionality that the prior version of the Facebook app provides. When you tap the notification bar the screen slides up to reveal all of your notifications, but unfortunately, tapping the notifications still loads the notification in the web browser rather than directly within the Facebook app. While the ability to handle friend requests and events on the phone are nice, I do not use those features very much. A feature that I use the most next to my news feed is chat, and while chat has been available in the iPhone app, it is still missing in the Android version. Because changes to the Facebook Android app have been so long in coming, I am happy to finally see some small improvements, but what I am more interested in knowing is whether Facebook will be providing more updates sooner, or will there be another lengthy period of time until we finally see chat added to the Android app?
