Facebook Dating App Attracts More Users Than Match

AreYouInterested is more popular than Match.com, adding more than 50,000 users a day compared to 20,000 respectively.

More people are looking for dates on Facebook than on sites dedicated to dating, like Match.com and EHarmony.

Are You Interested, Facebook’s largest dating app, has more than 13 million registered users, but clearly benefits from viral marketing to the social network’s almost 600 million members.

The app’s parent company, SNAP Interactive, said AreYouInterested.com adds more than 50,000 users a day, while Match.com adds 20,000 new users daily, according to an article in The Los Angeles Times.

The benefit of AreYouInterested.com is that by simply allowing the app to use the information already on Facebook, you can start viewing the profile of people you might want to talk to. You don’t have to set up a different profile on an outside site, so there’s no need for a different password, user name etc.

The basic plan allows you to view all the profiles you want, lets you view potential matches of others who share your interests, give you the opportunity to meet people from your area, and give you a place to chat. You can pay to upgrade so you can send and receive messages and see who’s viewing your profile.

But Match.com, which is part of IAC/InterActiveCorp, isn’t just going to sit on its laurels. Gregory R. Blatt, chief executive of IAC, said that the company is working on introducing new Facebook apps that will compete with AreYouInterested, according to the Times article

AreYouInterested’s parent SNAP Interactive announced record quarterly revenues of $1.65 million in October, more than double the revenue of the same quarter the year prior. It will be interesting to see what the company’s earnings for the latest quarter and full year will be now that the users exceed those of dating sites off of Facebook.

How does this news jibe with your experience on Facebook? Have you used any of the dating applications on or off of the site?

It comes as no surprise many use Facebook to find potential mates. But new numbers are suggesting users are logging onto Facebook more than they are using online dating sites like Match.com or EHarmony.com to look for love.
