Facebook Birthday Fundraisers Have Raised Over $300 Million in Their First Year

The social network is also revamping its nonprofit selection tools

Facebook celebrated the first birthday of its birthday fundraisers by announcing that more than $300 million has been raised for nonprofits through the feature.

Head of product, social good Asha Sharma also revealed in a Newsroom post that the social network is adding new tools to the feature to better enable people to find nonprofit organizations.

Sharma said top beneficiaries during the first year of birthday fundraisers included St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association, the American Cancer Society, Share Our Strength–No Kid Hungry and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

She added that Facebook is revamping its nonprofit selection tools to provide users with more information about organizations—mission, location, page likes, popular search terms—when they are choosing which ones to dedicate their birthday fundraisers to.
